I went down to check out Campbell River's annual Art Fest. The city shuts down the main street and lets artist set up booths to flog their wares. It was inspiring and cool, as it always is, but this year it seemed to have a weird ominous feel to it. Here's a few photos that I think reflect the feeling pretty well. I used my Sony a6000 camera with Canon's 40mm f2.8 stm pancake lens adapted on.

A friend approached me to do a quick maternity photo shoot to document her pregnancy with twins. This is a bit out my wheelhouse, but I jumped at the opportunity anyways. I had just picked up a new lens (Canon 70-200mm f/2.8) and was itching to try it out in a real world situation.
Here are the results. There is absolutely room for improvement, but the find the quality of the images from the lens to be very nice. The lens is quite heavy, and I was a bit surprised how fatiguing it was to shoot with. I'm looking forward to using this setup more, If for nothing else to build up my forearm muscles!

I put one of my photos into Google's Deep Dream A.I. computer, above is the result (slightly edited to enhance detail). I absolutely love it! It is quite Alex Grey-esque, but also reminds me of some of the bio-mech style from artists such as Guy Aitchison.

I highly recommend watching the you tube clip of the "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" scene in the article (hallucinogens optional).

Day one...
I have decided to begin an art journal. It's been a long time since I have done ink or paint on paper kind of art with any regularity. I feel a bit out of practice. It's nice to return to it, there is something very satisfying to work in this manor.
The book I've selected to journal in is an old hardcover copy of The Joy Of Sex. It has fantastic illustrations that I will allow to be incorporated into my own drawings, and I am thinking the juxtaposition of images will make for interesting content. The photo above is my first entry into the journal. I will not commit to one page a day or anything like that, I'll just work as the inspiration hits me, but hopefully by the end of the year I'll have a finished book.
